Why? Why? Why?

Someone please tell me why so many people are refusing vaccines that will protect them and US, that’s me and thee, from the coronavirus, but are willing to take ivermectin, the horse worming medicine instead. I don’t get it, I’d like to, understand that is, not take a dose of the medicine. I have two legs not four. No tail. I don’t whiney, whine maybe, but never whiney even when I want a sugar cube. I’ve never been saddled nor ridden off into the sunset, at least not yet.

The past two weeks have left me confused and troubled. I had a conversation with a relation in the great state of – you know which one I’m talking about. I’ve complained about my homeland before. This cousin will not get a vaccine, neither will her siblings, because Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson have not been adequately tested. “Polio vaccines were better tested,” she informed me by way of explaining why she will not take the current vaccines approved by the FDA to prevent COVID.

She also thinks there is a conspiracy afoot to lower the global population. How does she know? She’s seen a Bill Gates video to that effect.

Cuz is willing to take ivermectin to combat covid should she come down with it. A doctor in Houston has a website that touts this drug for the treatment of Covid, said she. I wondered if he is micro-soft in the head like the fellow with the video who is warning everyone about the over population of Planet Earth and what “they” might be doing about it. Geez, and I thought these conspiracy buffs were just afraid the vaccine would turn them into Democrats.

After we hung up, I checked out this ivermectin. The drug – the human version, not the dose for large animals – does have some uses in treating humans. Ivermectin can be used to treat some parasitic worms, head lice and skin conditions like rosacea that occur in humans. But the drug – especially the animal version is NOT to be used on humans to treat Covid, according to the FDA. The horse version could cause rashes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, some swelling, a racing heart which prompts the question: could taking the drug cause one to be put out to pasture? Or sent on a one-way trip to the glue factory? That’s where dead horses often ended up when I was a kid so we were told.

Another reason why this is so distressing are the latest numbers. Here in New Mexico, where I live, the number of covid cases has surged, more than doubled since early August, according to the Albuquerque Journal. We’re now number five in the nation in new cases per capita despite strenuous efforts taken by state officials and residents alike.

Most of the recent hospitalizations have occurred because those stricken have not been vaccinated. As a result, two of the state’s largest hospital systems are rationing care. Unless you’re having an emergency, call a witch doctor. Also, New Mexico, like California and Colorado, is allowing all adults to get boosters immediately regardless of Federal guidelines, which haven’t gone that far yet.

The horse puckey set needs to get shots number one and two first.

A health care professional I talked to during a recent medical procedure suggested that the surge here has been caused by people getting out and about. “They’re tired of being quarantined, so they’re gathering but not everyone has been vaccinated,” she said.

The holidays are right around the corner. More gatherings are on our calendars. We need to take sensible action now, NOW. So, we can all have a Happy New Year.
