Santa Fe Weird
When is a ladder not a ladder?
When someone steps off the ladder, is it an accident, a stunt or practice for an upcoming event? Could this man be preparing to leap a tall building. He'll need a cape and tights if he plans to do that. Flying would help, too.
In this case, the ladder is a prop, a convenient tool, used by artist Michael Long's photography class in the continuing education department of the Santa Fe Community College. The jumper is Long, who is teaching his class how to see creatively. According to Long's teaching philosophy, photography is more than shutter speeds, aperture and ISO settings, it's also composition, camera angles and learning to see in new and exciting ways. He's right. If you keep your eyes open, no telling what you'll find, even in a classroom at SFCC.
